Feeling Behind? Why You’re Exactly Where You’re Supposed to Be
Recently, I was stuck in a cycle I didn’t even realize I had fallen into. I would scroll through Instagram and see girls absolutely killing it—running their own businesses, building brands, growing massive followings, landing dream collaborations. And with every swipe, I felt smaller.
I’d sit there, picking myself apart, wondering why I wasn’t further along. Why my social media wasn’t growing like theirs. Why I wasn’t achieving as much. Why I felt behind. And instead of speaking life over myself, I spent so much time tearing myself down.
But here’s the craziest part—when I finally sat with those feelings, I realized I didn’t even want the things those girls had.
I wasn’t actually craving a booming social media career. I wasn’t even passionate about what they were doing. What I was really craving was purpose. I wanted something fulfilling—something that actually lit me up. And for me? That wasn’t Instagram. It was blogging.
I had spent all that time comparing myself to a version of success that wasn’t even mine. And I think we all do that sometimes.
The Lie of “Being Behind”
We live in a world that makes us feel like we’re constantly racing against an invisible clock.
If you haven’t hit certain milestones by a certain age, you feel behind.
If you’re not on the same path as everyone else, you feel like you’re doing something wrong.
If success isn’t happening fast enough, you wonder if it’s ever going to happen at all.
But I’m here to remind you: You are not behind. You are exactly where you need to be.
God’s Timing > Your Timeline
The world screams, “You should be further along by now.”
God whispers, “I am preparing you for what’s next.”
The world says, “Hustle harder—you’re running out of time.”
God says, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
The world makes you believe that your worth is tied to your progress.
But your worth has never been about what you do—it’s about who you are in Christ.
If you truly believe that God is sovereign, then you have to believe that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be right now. Every delay, every detour, every season of waiting—it’s all part of your preparation.
The Power of the In-Between Seasons
The seasons where nothing seems to be happening? They’re not wasted.
David was anointed king but spent years tending sheep before stepping into his calling.
Joseph had a dream of ruling but endured betrayal, slavery, and prison before reaching his purpose.
Jesus Himself spent 30 years in preparation before stepping into His public ministry.
Your waiting season isn’t punishment—it’s preparation.
What to Do When You Feel “Behind”
Instead of letting comparison steal your peace, here’s how to shift your mindset:
Trade Comparison for Gratitude
Instead of focusing on where you think you should be, focus on where God has you. Make a list of everything you’ve learned in this season. Look at how far you’ve come. There’s beauty in the becoming.Seek God, Not Just the Next Step
It’s easy to obsess over the “next thing”—the next job, relationship, opportunity. But what if this season is about drawing closer to God? What if your biggest breakthrough isn’t in a milestone, but in deepening your faith? God can do things man never could.Trust That Closed Doors Are Divine Protection
That job you didn’t get? That relationship that ended? That dream that didn’t pan out the way you imagined? It wasn’t rejection—it was redirection. God is always putting you on the better path.Stop Rushing & Start Surrendering
When you live like you’re behind, you start making rushed decisions—forcing things that aren’t meant for you. But God’s plans for you are GOOD. If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s because it’s not time yet.
You’re Right Where You Need to Be
So take a deep breath. Release the pressure.
You are not late. You are not failing. You are not forgotten.
God is still writing your story, and He’s never in a rush.
Your best days aren’t behind you—they’re ahead of you.
And when they come, you’ll realize that you weren’t behind at all. You were just becoming.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
Your time is coming, and I’m so excited for you. Trust Him in the process. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
