The Secret Place: Where to Go When You’re Hurting (and How to Talk to God Honestly)
Maybe your heart feels heavy. Maybe you’ve been carrying things alone for too long. Maybe you don’t know where to turn, but something deep inside you longs for more.
I don’t know what brought you here today, but I do know this: God sees you. He hears you. And He’s not far away—He’s closer than you think.
The secret place isn’t just for people who have it all together. It’s not for the perfect or the holy or the ones who already know how to pray.
The secret place is for the broken, the weary, the ones who don’t know where to start.
If that’s you—if you feel like you don’t even know how to come to God—I want you to know something: He is already waiting for you. Right now. In this very moment.
You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Come to Him
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned the lie that we have to clean ourselves up before coming to God. That we have to have the right words. That we need to get our life together first.
But the truth? God wants you exactly as you are.
He already knows your pain. He sees the fears, the doubts, the questions swirling in your mind. He knows the burdens you’ve been carrying in silence.
And He’s not waiting for you to “fix” yourself before coming to Him. He just wants you.
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
God isn’t sitting on His throne, arms crossed, waiting for you to say the right thing. He’s waiting with open arms, full of grace, ready to help you.
You don’t need fancy words.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to come.
What Do You Do in the Secret Place?
If you’re not sure how to pray or what to say, I want to encourage you—there’s no formula. Prayer is simply talking to God.
And if you don’t know what to say, start here:
Be honest. Tell Him what’s really on your heart. Even if it’s messy. Even if it doesn’t make sense.
Let yourself feel. If you need to cry, cry. If you’re angry, tell Him. If you feel numb, say that too.
Rest in His presence. Sometimes, words aren’t even needed. Just sit with Him. Play worship music. Let His love wash over you.
Know that He understands. Jesus walked this earth. He felt pain, grief, exhaustion, betrayal. He gets what you’re going through.
In the secret place, there’s no judgment. No shame. No pressure to perform. Just a safe space to be fully you.
What You’ll Find When You Come to Him
When you step into the presence of God, something beautiful happens.
You’ll find grace. Not condemnation. Not rejection. Just grace that meets you right where you are.
You’ll find love. A love that doesn’t waver, doesn’t change, and isn’t based on what you do but on who He is.
You’ll find healing. Even the deep wounds. Even the unspoken ones.
You’ll find mercy. Over and over again, no matter how many times you’ve failed.
Even when you confess your struggles, your fears, or your sins—He doesn’t push you away.
He pulls you closer.
My Secret Place: A Personal Story
I want to share something personal with you because the secret place isn’t just an idea to me—it’s real, and it has changed me.
I recently moved into my own place, and in my office, there’s an extra closet. At first, I wasn’t sure what to do with it. But then I realized—it was meant to be my secret place. My prayer closet. The place where I could shut the door and be alone with God. No distractions. No filters. Just me and Him.
And something happens the moment I step inside.
As soon as I close the door, the tears start flowing. Everything comes out—even things I didn’t know were buried inside me. It’s one of the only places where I have met God so naked, so vulnerable. Nothing to hide. Nothing to pretend. Just my full heart and my full surrender.
It’s hard to explain what God does in the secret place. But He shows up there.
Sometimes, I hesitate before going in—because I know that once I do, I won’t leave the same. The process of healing and renewal isn’t always easy. God has been uprooting so many old seeds—lies, wounds, fears that were planted in my childhood. And it’s painful. It hurts to release the weight I’ve carried for so long. But every time I step into His presence, He reminds me that He’s planting something new.
Every prayer, every moment of surrender in the secret place is planting fresh seeds for my future. And with every encounter, He waters them.
Showing up in the presence of God changes you. From the inside out.
He’s Closer Than You Think
I don’t know where you are today.
Maybe you’re hurting. Maybe you’re tired. Maybe you feel far from God or aren’t even sure He’s real.
But I promise you this: If you reach out to Him, you will find Him.
He’s not distant.
He’s not silent.
He’s right here.
You don’t have to do anything fancy. Just whisper His name.
"Jesus, I need You."
That’s all it takes.
And when you step into the secret place—even if you don’t feel anything at first, even if it takes time—He will meet you there.
Because He loves you. And He always has.
What About You?
If you’ve never tried talking to God before, or if you’ve felt distant from Him, I encourage you—take a few minutes today. Find a quiet place. Let it all out.
And if you’re not sure where to start, send me a message. You don’t have to figure this out alone.
Because the secret place is waiting. And so is He.
